In Hong Kong, many buildings lack proper repairs and maintenance, and therefore have become old and dilapidated.<\/p>\n
To tackle the problem of urban decay and better utilize our limited land resources, both the Government and property developers implement redevelopment schemes.<\/p>\n
In a large-scale property redevelopment, the following entities are usually the only parties that acquire land for redevelopment:<\/p>\n
\n- the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), or<\/li>\n
- property developers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Redevelopment is usually carried out by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) and property developers in the following three ways:<\/p>\n
\n- If the URA or property developers want to redevelop an area, they first consider acquiring the land by private agreement with the existing owners. If they cannot acquire the entire interest in the land, they may acquire the rest through land resumption or compulsory sale.<\/li>\n
- The URA undertakes land resumption under the\u00a0Urban Renewal Authority Ordinance<\/a>\u00a0(\u00a0Cap. 563<\/a>\u00a0of the Laws of Hong Kong) and the\u00a0Lands Resumption Ordinance<\/a>\u00a0(\u00a0Cap. 124<\/a>\u00a0of the Laws of Hong Kong).<\/li>\n
- Property developers can apply for a compulsory sale order for all interest in the land under the\u00a0Land (Compulsory Sale for Redevelopment) Ordinance<\/a>\u00a0(\u00a0Cap. 545<\/a>\u00a0of the Laws of Hong Kong) for the purpose of redevelopment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

Adoption is a legal process by which parental rights and responsibilities over a child are transferred from the birth parents to the adoptive parents. An adoption in Hong Kong must be effected in accordance with the Adoption Ordinance , Cap. 290<\/a> , Laws of Hong Kong. The guiding principle in the adoption process is the \u201cbest interests of the child\u201d ( section 8<\/a> of the Adoption Ordinance<\/a> ).<\/p>Local adoption service in Hong Kong is provided by the Adoption Unit of the Social Welfare Department and three non-governmental organizations, as Accredited Bodies:<\/p>
- International Social Service Hong Kong Branch<\/li>
- Mother\u2019s Choice Limited<\/li>
- Po Leung Kuk<\/li><\/ul>
