Race Discrimination<\/h1>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.7&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div id=\"masterContent\" class=\"fontSize3\">\n<p>Under the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Race Discrimination Ordinance (&#8220;RDO&#8221;)<\/a>\u00a0, it is unlawful to discriminate, harass and vilify a person on the ground of his\/her race. With the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0in place, people of different races can live and work as one community. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0offers protection in several areas including the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>employment;<\/li>\n<li>education;<\/li>\n<li>provision of goods, facilities or services;<\/li>\n<li>disposal or management of premises;<\/li>\n<li>eligibility to vote for and to stand for election to public bodies, etc;<\/li>\n<li>offering of a pupillage or tenancy in a barrister&#8217;s chambers;<\/li>\n<li>participation in clubs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0provides the following exceptions under which the decisions made because of, or having an impact on, race would not be unlawful:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>genuine occupational qualification (\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/s11.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">section 11<\/a>\u00a0);<\/li>\n<li>employment intended to provide training for skills to be used outside Hong Kong (\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/s12.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">section 12<\/a>\u00a0);<\/li>\n<li>employment of persons with special skills, knowledge or experience (\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/s13.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">section 13<\/a>\u00a0);<\/li>\n<li>existing local and overseas employment terms (\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RDO<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hklii.hk\/eng\/hk\/legis\/ord\/602\/s14.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">section 14<\/a>\u00a0);<\/li>\n<li>cemetery, crematorium or columbarium;<\/li>\n<li>special measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more details, please see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clic.org.hk\/en\/topics\/antiDiscrimination\/race_discrimination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">relevant section<\/a>\u00a0of &#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clic.org.hk\/en\/topics\/antiDiscrimination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anti-discrimination<\/a> &#8221; under the CLIC website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.22&#8243;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||&#8221; custom_padding__hover=&#8221;|||&#8221;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Introduction to the existing anti-discrimination ordinances in Hong Kong&#8221; module_class=&#8221;posttitle&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.7&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221;] VI. An adoption in Hong Kong must be effected in accordance with the <a href=\"#\">Adoption Ordinance , Cap. 290<\/a> , Laws of Hong Kong.
